Activity Hubs transform the way the universities collect and aggregate data to meet analytic and reporting needs.
Activity Hubs are designed to replace outdated campus data storage systems with new technology, reducing duplicated and incorrect data, improving the overall quality of stored data, and streamlining and simplifying the process of accessing data.
Data activity from each enterprise system is stored in student, alumni, employee, research, facilities and financial data areas called "hubs." Activity Hubs streamline business processes across campus by providing an easier, faster, more reliable and secure way to analyze both historical and new data from a centralized source.
Any data can be brought into a single table, with 10,000 (or more!) rows. This is our data lake. A series of views can be configured for certain analytical “vignettes.”
UC San Diego maintains responsibility for the core views. Partnering institutions can further build out any views they want.
If you know SQL, then you can use an Activity Hub. Nice-to-haves include knowledge about relational database design.
SAP HANA is our database platform. It’s very fast and used by very large corporate customers, such as Intel. Our solution makes it affordable for higher ed use.
Universities can create their own activity table and bring in data from any source using our integration platform (Kafka, NiFi, Go Anywhere, WS02 API Manager) or their own.
If a university can’t do that on its own we have partnerships with several tech firms that can assist.
Our goal by the end of 2022 is to produce suite a of reports in the SAP analytics cloud platform.
Universities can use their own reporting tools, too, such as Cognos, Tableau or anything that can read ODBC/JDBC data sources.
